Hidden Church History

The Hidden church in Göreme is one of the structures thought to have been built in the 2nd half of the 11th century. Due to the landslides experienced in the intervening thousands of years, the church was covered. It was discovered by chance during the excavations in Göreme and therefore it was named the hidden church.
When you look at the architecture of the Hidden church, you can realize that it is one of the important examples of Mesopotamian architecture. Like many churches built in this period, it has a rectangular plan. It basically consists of two columns. There are 3 different arches between these columns.
Two of the apses of the church, which is understood to have 3 apses during the period of its construction, collapsed and merged.
In the church where Jesus motifs are intensely used, techniques that are rarely used were used. One of the important features of the church is to paint the motifs using cloth instead of a brush.
Since the Hidden church is a protected work, it is not possible to visit its interior. Therefore, you can only see the outside.

How to Go to Saklı Church?

Saklı Church is one of the lesser known churches of Cappadocia. Usually not included in tour plans. The biggest reason for this is that it is not possible to visit the inside, so it does not attract enough attention of tourists.
If you want to include the Saklı Church in your itinerary, you will have to go with your own vehicle. First of all, you can find the El Nazar church and ask the attendant to take you to the Hidden church. In this way, you can find the opportunity to see the church.
